"People who live in the present often wind up exploiting the present to an extent that it starts removing the possibility of having a future." - this was written by Allan E. Alter for a case of TV broadcasting, but applies very well to Software architectures. It may be fairly straightforward to build a system for the next 5 years, picking best of breed components of the present. But if you want it to live and grow for 10/20+ years? Is Angular the right choice? Think about Flex for a moment and where it is now. What about micro services? I will try to open this discussion from a broad technical and organizational perspective and, hopefully, give some answers.

Roko Roić, author
More than 17 years in the IT industry. Started of as an enterprise Java developer, picked up PHP and Ruby along the way, but continued mostly in the J2EE stream. Had a lot to do with system infrastructure and performance optimization on a large scale. Now I manage teams in developing IT solutions, currently at King ICT. I am the author of "Lean and Agile", the first book on the topic of iterative development in Croatian language.

Matija Capan has graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing with a master’s degree in telecommunications and informatics. He has over ten years of experience as a software developer and architect, creating solutions for clients from banking, government, and transportation sectors.
