Large number of projects have a similar set of requirements, demand the same developer skill set and solve a similar set of problems. Therefore, large number of companies try to develop a set of generic components, or even a whole generic platform. The risks involved in such an enterprise are numerous - from educating analysts, through making difficult technical decisions and up to the legal issues. I'll bring you my experiences from working on several of these projects.
