In this Java community keynote brought to you by the representatives of HUJAK (Croatian Java User Association), we discuss the current state of the Java tech ecosystem and its bright future. This includes the foundation of the platform and virtual machine, features of Java and other programming languages based on it, many frameworks, libraries, tools, and services, and most importantly – the community and people behind it. For more than a quarter of the century, Java has been considered one of the best programming languages and the most widespread software development platform globally. We will tackle some of the most interesting Java features (e.g., Synchronous Performance and Lightweight Concurrency, Foreign Function and Memory API, Vector API and GPU Processing, Polyglotism and Native Images, Pattern Matching, Records, Switch Expressions and Text Blocks) and prospective new projects behind it (e.g., Loom, Graal, Panama, Valhalla, and Amber). We will address the current state of software development and present the global developers' opinions as well as discuss challenges related to remote work, education, and employment. Join HUJAK in this interesting journey through the world of Java.
