There is an interesting paradox behind the crushing victory of Agile Methodologies during those past two decades. While there was a promise to keep things Simple and Stupid, software development’s complexity has simply exploded during the same period. Automation has been the only way to hold this increasing complexity. Whatever we think about this automation trend, nothing can stop the train: CI, CD, unit tests, integration tests, quality checks, compliance checks, security checks, ... everything is now automated except the manual code review step on PRs. This missing piece of the puzzle is coming.

Freddy Mallet, author
Freddy Mallet is the creator of the Open Source SonarQube platform and co-founder of Sonar. He was part of the first wave of agile practitioners back at the beginning of the 2000s when most CI systems were still homemade. Freddy is a big fan of collective intelligence and human interactions but equally values what agile methodologies have brung in terms of automation.
